Scholarship Appreciation Reception
On April 8, 2018, PA College hosted the annual Scholarship Appreciation Reception, an opportunity for scholarship donors and student recipients to meet, share stories and thanks, and celebrate the impact of scholarship support at PA College.
Nearly 100 guests enjoyed informal conversation and a short program, featuring remarks from College President Dr. Mary Grace Simcox and Michelle Meiser, Assistant Vice President for Admissions and Strategic Marketing Initiatives, who spoke to the impact of need-based scholarship support in the lives of our students.
Guest speaker Mike Shirk, CEO of the High companies spoke of his family’s commitment to the College through the John O. Shirk Memorial Nursing Scholarship at PA College, established in 2011 in honor of Mike’s late father, an attorney who served on the PA College Board of Trustees from 2006-2011.
Guest speaker, Gladys Thompson, a student enrolled in our Associate of Science in Nursing Program and a recipient of a Henry P. and Mary B. Stager Memorial Nursing Scholarship, shared her inspiring story of overcoming childhood hardships to follow her dream of becoming a nurse, her steadfast belief in the transformational power of education and her aspirations to one day provide financial support to other aspiring students like herself.
Karen Jenkins, Director of Donor Relations, concluded the program by honoring three longstanding endowed scholarship funds reaching important milestones of their founding. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the B. Frank Snavely Memorial Scholarship, the 30th Anniversary of the Eleanor B. Yohn Endowed Nursing Scholarship and the 30th Anniversary of the Arthur F. Jones, Jr., MD Memorial Scholarship. Additionally, 10 new endowed scholarship funds and four new current use scholarship funds debuted this year, which increases PA College’s capacity to support need-based scholarship funds this year and for many years to come.
