Give Stocks and Securities

If your stock is held at a brokerage firm, notify the broker that you wish to make a gift of securities to Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences via the Lancaster General Health Foundation and provide written authorization. Include the name of the stock you want to transfer, the number of shares and where you would like your gift to be designated by PA College.

Once you’ve authorized the transfer, ask your broker to contact the Lancaster General Health Foundation Office at (717) 544-5956 for complete transfer instructions. Upon receipt, your gift to PA College will reflect 100 percent of the value of the transfer.

Gifts from Individual Retirement Accounts

Once individuals reach age 72, they are required to take minimum distributions from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) each year, according to a federal formula. Direct IRA Charitable Rollovers count toward your Required Minimum Distribution. President Obama signed into law the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes Act of 2015, extending the IRA Charitable Rollover permanently. The extension allows individuals age 72 and older to donate up to $100,000 from their IRAs to non-profit organizations like Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences tax-free. This provision allows donors to transfer money from their IRAs directly to PA College, without having to recognize the transfer as taxable income. Donors should consult their tax advisors about their specific situations.

The sample IRA letter below can be used to send to your IRA plan provider. If you have questions, or if you would like to talk about how a gift from your IRA could serve the mission of PA College, please contact Ellen Wylie at (717) 947-6089.
