• Policies & Procedures

    Borrowing Materials (LGH/LGC patrons):

    • A PA College or LGH ID badge is required to borrow materials from the Library.
    • Borrowing should be limited to needed materials. No more than 10 items may be taken out at one time, and not all from the same subject area.
    • The library reserves the right to impose borrowing restrictions or modify policies as needed.
    • Reference books, Reserves and journals may not be removed from the library.
    • Circulating materials may be borrowed for two weeks, and renewed if there are no pending holds.
    • Holds can be placed on materials through the online catalog. Priority is “first come, first served” in processing hold requests.
    • Library staff will not reveal to whom an item has been checked out to other Library customers.
    • Any patron who loses or damages library material is liable for the cost of replacement, plus a $25 processing fee.

    Community & Affiliated Patrons:

    • The general public, including patients and their families, are welcome to use the library and to borrow materials from the Patient Resource Collection. Two books may be taken out at any one time.
    • In addition, current students enrolled in any of our partner Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania (ACLCP) colleges may use the library’s collection and borrow print materials in accordance with library policies.
    • Alumni as well are authorized to borrow from the collection.
    • All who wish to borrow materials must complete and sign a brief registration form.

    Food & Beverages:

    • Food is not permitted in the library. Drinks with lids are allowed.

    Conversation & Telephones:
The library is meant to be a place for quiet study, research, work, as well as collaboration. Please be respectful of your colleagues and keep conversation low and to a minimum. In addition:

    • Please be courteous, and take cell phone conversations to the lobby.
    • There is also a house phone in the library for short conversations.
    • Earphones are available free of charge; stop by the Circulation Desk if you would like a pair.

    • Library computers may be used by Lancaster General employees, medical staff, residents, volunteers, PA College faculty and students who hold a LGH network account.
    • The library’s computers are often in high demand. During busy times, please restrict your work on these machines to work- or school-related activities.
    • All users are expected to comply with the LGH Electronic Media Services and Confidentiality policy, available on StarNet.
    • Wireless computing for personal laptops through the LGH Guest network is available to all LGH visitors.
